Verballed Oklahoma Over: Duke, Illinois, Kansas, North Carolina, Tulsa, NBA 2/26/01 - From Rivals. Big time recruit. Brother has transfered to Illinois where former Tulsa coach, Bill Self is who also coached Oral Roberts basketball. Kelenna has been averaging 38 ppg and 11 rpg. He apparently is seriously considering the NBA. 78/17/01 - Reading various reports from the summer circuit, including the Nike camp, the one thing that seems to be consistent is that Kelenna has a lot of potential (obviously) but is nowhere near ready to head to the NBA. He seems out of control and pressing to make a show but very unsuccessfully. The real question is with all the talk about the NBA, will most coaches back off feeling that he would be a disruption to their teams and all the ongoing speculation surrounding him? Just a guess, probably, so look for him to end up at a mid-major. Tulsa might take a chance but even he may have burned his bridges with their coach by all the talk. 8/16/01 - Kelenna has trimmed his list of schools for visits to five. KU, Kentucky, Tennessee, Illinois and UCLA. He is also considering Oklahoma, Tulsa and Oklahoma State. All the talk about the NBA is over for now. While very athletic and physically mature, he will benefit from several years in college. 9/25/01 - Kelenna's parents profuse statements over the summer about him going pro didn't stop Kelvin Sampson from recruiting him. Telling him that he was their main priority seemed to work. The commitment on Oklahoma's part doesn't seem to have transferred over to the Azibuike family as they still are talking NBA decision in the spring.
