Who
are you guys, anyway?
We've tried to answer this
question on our about this site page.
How can
I write to the players and coaches?
The simplest way to get in touch with the players
or coaches is to write to them in care of the
Basketball Office. Here is the address:
241 Allen
Field House,
University of Kansas,
Lawrence, KS 66045
Do
the players have e-mail addresses?
Probably many of them do. But, we
don't know them. I suspect they keep their e-mail
addresses quiet to guard their privacy.
How
can I get tickets?
KU basketball games are almost
always sold out. The best chance to get single game
tickets through the ticket office is over the
Thanksgiving and Christmas breaks when the students
are out of town. The ticket office usually will make
student tickets available to the general public. The
number for the ticket office is: (913) 864-3141 or
1-800-34-HAWKS
Sometimes a few General Admission
tickets are available even when school is in session,
but these get snapped up quickly. This link to the
Athletic Department's site gives the dates when
tickets for each game go on sale. Ticket Dates
How can I get season tickets?
Get on the list. It is pretty long,
although the more one donates to the Williams Fund
the closer to the top one can get. More information on the Williams fund.
There are also tickets available
from scalpers before most games at whatever price the
market will bear.
What's the number for the Athletic
Department?
(913) 864-3417 is the number for
the Sports Information Office. For most questions
that don't involve tickets that is the best place to
start.
Are
the KU games available on satellite?
Yes. Gary Bedore reported the
following in the Journal World in Sept. 1998:
KU fans across the country
often wonder how they can watch every KU game on
television. It can be done. It requires a small
satellite dish and a subscription to ESPN's
Fullcourt Press. Kansas is one of a handful of
teams that will have every non-CBS or ABC game
televised on the Fullcourt Press package.
Any KU fan interested in the
ESPN Full Court package should call Direct TV at
1-800-Directv or their local cable operator. The
package, dish and all should cost between $250
and $300.
If you have a big dish or want to view games at
your local sports bar, we have a board
where fans post the coordinates
Will Roy leave KU when the North
Carolina job opens up?
There is no yes or no answer to
this question. Chuck Woodling of the Journal World
has addressed this question as well as anyone. Here
is a link to his
answer.
To his answer I would only add the
following quotes from Roy:
"Lawrence, Kansas is my
home."
- Roy Williams to a packed Allen Field House last
winter in introducing the Jayhawks' new football
coach, Terry Allen.
"This is not only the best place
to play basketball, it's the best place to coach
basketball." -Roy Williams to an even
more-packed Allen Field House on Senior Day, 1997.
"I am extremely happy at the
University of Kansas. I think I know where I am and
where I want to be. I've tried to show people I've
been very happy here a long time."
Roy Williams after Gutheridge was hired by North
Carolina.
Do
you know any of the players?
Nope. We know some former players,
but none of the current ones.
Is
Roy's camp worthwhile?
Absolutely. John's son has attended
multiple times, always has a great time and always
improves his game. Often current and former players
act as counselors and work with the kids. The camp
coaches treat the kids as one would expect Roy would.
They work hard, treat the kids with respect, focus on
fundamentals, and have fun. More information.
Why
isn't there more coverage of the Lady Jayhawks?
We would like to be able to cover
the Lady Jayhawks more than we do. The problem is
that we don't have the time to get to all the games.
We are looking for a correspondent to cover the Lady
Jayhawks. If you are interested, let us know. We do
have a board to discuss the women's team. We also are slowly adding season summaries
and statistics for the Lady Jayhawks.
Why
do the boards require a password?
If you've ever been to an open
board in mid-season you know the answer to this
question already. Boards that allow anyone to post
and to do so anonymously tend to sink to the lowest
common denominator very quickly and devolve into
childish bickering over which teams/players/coaches
"suck" and or "rule." Posters
with anything interesting to stay tend to get drowned
out and then stop posting.
We've found that the password
system deters the hit-and-run flamers and give us a
way to remove the posting privileges of those who
abuse the board. Of course, a password isn't required
to read the board, just to post to it.
Why
is there now advertising on the site?
Dave started taking advertising
before John. The issue for both is overhead. The cost
of server space, a domain name and software for each
of us amounts to multiple hundreds of dollars a year.
Our hope is that through advertising we will recoup
these expenses. We would much prefer KU, Jayhawk,
Lawrence or basketball related advertising. If you
have any suggestions in that regard, let us know.
