Possession analysis

"Except for the foul trouble, I thought we played very, very well. But you've got to give credit to Texas. Early in the season we didn't think they shot the ball particularly well, but we talked as a staff about how they were shooting the ball better recently, and they made a bunch of shots tonight. We even went to a zone early in the second half to protect Drew because he had three fouls, but it wasn't a very good coaching decision because they kept making shots. Then we got down to the about the 9:00 mark and we decided we were gonna play a man most of the time from there on out because we were not doing a good job in the zone. But congratulate Texas, because I'm telling ya' they took some shots that we wanted 'em to take, but they made 'em, too.

"We had good execution at that time (scoring on five straight possessions in overtime). After we scored the first two, their defense had to come out a little farther and stretch it out, and it was harder to guard us in the open court. We got the ball inside to Drew and Nick. We missed some opportunities from the free throw line. But I even liked that last possession. I liked the fact we had the ball at the end of the game to try to win, because we haven't been in that situation this year. Our execution was pretty good, but Texas' defense was better and we weren't able to score, so we were able to get it in the overtime.

"It was said in the locker room that the starting five have dome some nice things for us this year, but Wayne Simien was huge for us, Brett Ballard was huge for us. Brett made the big three for us during a run. Boschee made a couple of big threes. It really was a five-man game for us tonight, whoever the five were who were out on the court.

"I've said a lot of times I'd rather play in the 90's and 100's. I don't know if I'd like the other team to score 103 against us. But it's that kind of game. It's exciting, the kids like to play that way, and I think both teams have the ability to do that. That's the way we've chosen to do that, to push the tempo, and it's fun to watch."
