yesterday, and the focus of the whole practice was to make sure
they did a good job on Jake, get a hand in his face, and it didn't
make much difference. We went zone a couple of times just trying
to stay out of foul trouble, and the last three times we were in zone,
they hit threes. So I told my staff, 'No more zone.' We were very
fortunate. The score was tied and they missed two free throws,
then we come down and get a huge three by Jeff Boschee. Then
we get another stop and come down and get two free throws by
Drew. The next trip we missed, but Keith Langford gets a big
offensive rebound for us and we were able to run it out.
"We started with Aaron on (Sullivan, 27 points), and he made his first one, and I said I hated that he made the first one because he's such a rhythm shooter. But we had Kirk on him, we had Boschee on him, we had Aaron on him, and on the last possession we were putting Keith on him. We tried different people, but he just made a bunch of shots, and you've got to congratulate him because he had a hell of a game. "I really got ticked off at (Gooden) because he took a bad shot. It was a three, and at that stage of the game you should never take that, then he went down to the other end and didn't guard anybody at all. I told him he could sit over there and think about a little bit. Then when I put him back in he made two or three baskets the next three or four possessions. "We feel good for Nick and Kirk more than anything and their families more than anything. And we feel good for this team this year, because it was a big win for us and a great last minute and a half or two minutes." |
