Possession analysis

"I want to congratulate Oklahoma. Down the stretch they made some big plays, made some big shots. It's ironic that Kelly Newton, a youngster who said when he grew up he always wanted to be a Jayhawk. Well, he sure shot 'em down today. His three over there in front of their bench was really big. I think he made two threes in a row. And both times we had a defensive player right there and he made the shot over a hand. I think the last one, he even had two guys flying at him. Those were the two biggest plays of the game.

"We came down after their missed free throw and wanted to push it because we were down two. We got the shot we wanted with Drew inside, but it just rolled off and missed. It would have been fun if it had gone in and we'd had a chance to make a three point play, but he missed it. Then the first free throw he missed, made the second, and at that point we had to foul but weren't able to get the right guy fouled or talk anybody into missing the free throws. We didn't do a very good job of getting a good three (to tie). They did a good job of running out on our three-point shooters. We got one from Kirk at the top and then again from Kirk in the corner, but those were almost prayers and today that prayer wasn't answered.

"But again, congratulate Oklahoma. They were tough enough to stay in there. They were down six at the half, and we told the kids they were down last night at the half, but they came back, so it wasn't going to mean anything today. I challenged 'em like I did last night to try to win the second half, but it wasn't our best effort in the second half. I was not pleased with the way we played in several areas in the second half, but Oklahoma was the one that made the plays."
