Talk
about the game: |
"They're a very good basketball team. I've liked Eddie's club the entire season. They were my pick to win the whole thing before the season started because I like the experience and the talent. Iowa State did a great job and ended up winning it. (OSU) proved twice this year that we couldn't beat 'em, and they proved it convincingly both times. They guarded us probably better than anybody's guarded us all year long. They have shooters that make shots. Their inside players are very good, and probably don't get as much credit because Mason and Adkins and Gottlieb and Alexander and all those guys are good. But Montananti and Jonzen and Weber all did a good job. They basically beat us in every aspect of the game. |
| E-Mail Jack | "We didn't do a very good job of stopping (Gottlieb's) penetration. He's
gonna take it all the way to the basket, but yet he did make a three today,
too. We didn't do a very good job on him. The first half, if we make free
throws and stop making silly turnovers, we're right in the basketball game
(KU down 14 at half). We had six or maybe eight points possibly at the free
throw line we didn't make, and 10 or 11 turnovers. Half of them were caused
by their defense and half of them were caused by silly plays on our part.
<>P "It hurt us when Nick Bradford got his third foul and Nick Collison got in
foul trouble, and we had to take him out. Those two guys were competing
really hard and kept us in the game. Nick kept coming up with some loose
balls. Nick Collison hurt his back on the first series, on the layup when he
tried to take it, and they called a block on the OSU players, and he came
down hard on his back. That's the reason I never did put him back in at the
end of the game, because it was hurting him too much.
"Drew's a good shooter (4 x 3-pt) when he gets his feet set. But those are just stats. We've got 18 turnovers. I thought Drew did some really nice things, but he can't turn the ball over six times and go to the free throw line and be one for six, and feel that you've done a good job, because you haven't. But it was our whole team. They beat us. They beat us convincingly. They are a better basketball team than we are." |
