Philadelphia Inquirer re: recent Big East meeting --
League working on divisional alignmentIt says "BYU or Air Force", but
BYU turned down the Big East 6 months ago when they couldn't agree to terms.
Salt Lake City's Fox13
reports in response
BYU officials haven’t said anything about the Big East, but in the past, they’ve said that the school is happy to remain as an independent in football and a member of the West Coast Conference in basketball. So if there is any juice to the rumors coming from the Big East meetings, when did this happen?
If BYU is going to give up it's CFB independence, why not go back to talks with the Big 12?
Is the Big 12's new assignment of rights agreement actually a deterrent to BYU? As I understand it, it only applies to Tiers 1 & 2, so BYU's Tier 3 set up should be fine.
BYUTV is done in hand with ESPN, so that really shouldn't be an issue, although in the past Big 12 media contract partner Fox has had issues with BYU's "No Sunday games" position.
According to this
article on BYU Athletic Director Tom Holmoe's comments (from Nov 30, 2011), the ball is in the Big 12's court. The Big 12 brought in WVU and TCU before discussion really got going with BYU (Holmoe said the discussion never got as far as TV rights).
Screwy times, just so glad the Big 12 is now solidly in the + column.
