That's one of the things about politics and partisanship.
If right wingers go crazy about something a liberal does, it just seems to strengthen the liberal. Likewise the other way.
In policy, it is somewhat similar. These days, a Democrat would be hard pressed to create something like the EPA. But a Republican could. Also, I don't think a Republican can make real reform on Social Security. Too much fight on the other side. But if a democrat came through with a plan to reform it, I think it could happen.
So, the only way Bill Maher could be held accountable would be for liberals to give him the cold shoulder. Similarly, the only way for Limbaugh to be held accountable is for right wingers to shun him.
