Self put it well:
"To put them in position to have a chance to win the game is beyond belief because of just making basketball plays that experienced guys should never make."We not only took the foot off their neck and failed to close out, but we failed to adjust (despite the timeouts and re-set opportunities we had, as you mentioned). And failed to adjust, importantly, on the end of the floor where we typically hang our hat: defense. At times our defense resembled Baylor's in that stretch--it was that weak. Several full-floor uncontested layups, not sticking with our men, etc.
The inability to close out well is disturbing, but in this case (unlike at Fizzou) we won. In part because A&M doesn't have the clutch shooters (see: Marcus Denmon) that Fizzou does. I'll chalk this one up in the "whew, I'm glad we got outta there with a win" category and chuck the game film into the trash can so that the 24/7 laser-like focus now goes to the Slavers.
Onward and (hopefully) upward!
