Bells and whistles

I'll start this here and move it to the site feedback board if it gets going.

I've been surprised to read the negative reactions to some of the features with the new system. I thought stuff such as profiles and gravatars would help build community, to flesh out personality behind just the screennames. And while I didn't expect everybody to use the features, I didn't anticipate that they would turn people off. I can turn off signatures, profiles, gravatars, polls, etc., if that's what people want. Let me know here or by PM.
